Utah County doesn’t need your attention. It’s been doing just fine without it — home to some of the best hiking in the state, a food scene that gets better every year, and enough going on any given weekend that you’ll never run out of excuses to leave the couch. Whether you’re a lifer or just moved here, this is the list.
Get Outside
1. Hike to Timpanogos Cave
The most recognizable peak in the county has a cave system inside it worth every step of the 1.5-mile trail to the entrance. Book tickets in advance — they sell out fast in summer.
2. Provo River Parkway Trail
Flat, paved, and stretching over 15 miles from Provo Canyon into the valley. Good for runs, bike rides, or the kind of walk where you actually talk to the person you came with.
3. Rock Canyon Trail
Right in Provo’s backyard. Short enough to squeeze in after work, long enough to feel it the next morning. The views back over the valley are worth every step.
4. Bridal Veil Falls
One of the most accessible waterfall hikes in the state. Five minutes from the mouth of Provo Canyon. Bring the kids or go alone — both are fine.
5. Squaw Peak
The view from the top looks out over the whole valley. Do it at sunset at least once.
6. Drive Provo Canyon
Any time of year, but especially fall. Pull over at Vivian Park. Keep going to Deer Creek Reservoir. There’s no bad version of this drive.
Eat Something Good
7. Get a dirty soda
If you’ve been here more than a week, you already know. Swig or Sodalicious — pick your loyalty and defend it. The coconut lime at Swig is not up for debate.
8. Find a local taqueria
Skip the chains. Utah County has more good Mexican food than it gets credit for. The smaller spots along State Street in Orem will change your Friday night plans.
9. Walk Center Street in Provo
Downtown Provo has quietly built a real dining scene over the last few years. Walk it and see what catches you — you’ll find something good.
10. Find your go-to breakfast spot
Every local has one. The kind of place where they know your order. Start auditioning.
Do Something With People
11. Book an escape room
There are several solid ones in Provo and Orem and they fill up on weekends for good reason. Great for groups, better than expected for dates. Book ahead on Friday and Saturday nights.
12. Seven Peaks Waterpark
Summer staple. If you have kids, you’re already going. If you don’t, it’s still worth an afternoon.
13. Fat Cats Provo
Bowling, arcade games, and mini golf in one building. Hard to go wrong with a group.
14. ComedySportz Provo
Live improv comedy, family-friendly, and genuinely funnier than you’re expecting. One of the better underrated date options in the county.
15. Catch a BYU or UVU game
Football, basketball, soccer — something is almost always going on. The energy is real and the tickets are cheap.
See Something
16. Thanksgiving Point
Technically multiple attractions — the Museum of Ancient Life, Farm Country, the tulip festival, the butterfly biosphere. Pick one or spend a whole day cycling through all of them.
17. Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum at BYU
Free admission. Taxidermied animals from every continent, a giant squid, and more than you’d expect from a university natural history museum.
18. BYU Museum of Art
Also free. Rotating exhibitions and a permanent collection that punches well above its weight.
19. Springville Museum of Art
Utah’s oldest art museum, housed in a beautiful Spanish Colonial building. Worth the short drive from Provo.
20. Hutchings Museum in Lehi
Local and natural history in one place. Underrated, especially with kids who ask a lot of questions.
Get Out Into the County
21. Strawberry Reservoir
About an hour from Provo. Fishing, camping, and scenery that reminds you why you live in Utah.
22. Salem Pond
Low-key fishing and walking spot in Salem. Good for a slow Sunday when you don’t want to drive far.
23. Payson Canyon
Less trafficked than Provo Canyon and worth the extra few miles. Maple Canyon nearby is one of the better-kept secrets in the county.
24. Local Farmers Markets
Several run seasonally around the county. Provo’s is the biggest, but the smaller ones in American Fork and Spanish Fork have their own character.
Stay in the Loop
